Maybe it needs punctuation … how about: My mind doesn’t, like God, but I do.

Hmmm; so are you thinking that the full idea is something like the following?
“Eating sandwiches: My mind doesn’t, like god [doesn't], but I do.”

Yeah, that was basically what I had in mind, although now I think it’s probably more like cognitive/emotive dissonance. It’s like he *knows* that God is a bad idea, but he doesn’t *believe* it.

Consider the implications of the mirror image proposition: My mind likes God, but I don’t. I.e., intelletually, I am attracted to God (“like” does imply attraction), but, personnally, I opppose the idea.
